Akkuş ( Turkish for white bird) is a town in the district of the same name Akkuş, in the province of Ordu Turkey. It is located in the foothills of Mount Argan in the Canik mountain range. Until 1954 it was called Karakuş ( black bird ).
History
In ancient times, the town belonged to the kingdom of Pontus. The first Turkish rulers of the region were the Danishmends. From the 15th century belonged to the Ottoman Empire Akkuş.
