Al -Biruni is a lunar impact crater on the moon back of the Moon with an average diameter of about 80 kilometers.

Description

Due to the libration of the moon, he is occasionally visible from Earth - but only on the side. Al -Biruni is located in the south of the crater Joliot and northeast of Goddard. The edge of Al -Biruni forms a non- even- circle, with a bump on the northeastern edge and a crater inner wall in the West. The inner bottom is relatively flat, with a few small craters. The largest is Al -Biruni C, which lies near the north-eastern wall.

Eponym

Named the moon after the Islamic scholar al -Biruni 's ( 973-1048 ). The designation by the International Astronomical Union ( IAU ) was 1970.
