Al Feldstein

Albert B. Feldstein ( born October 24, 1925 in New York City ) is an American illustrator and painter. He was in the early 1950s, artist and editor of EC Comics. He was editor in chief in 1956, founded by Harvey Kurtzman comic magazine MAD Magazine.

Life

Feldstein was born in Brooklyn, New York and showed an early interest in art and culture. After attending the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan, he moved to Brooklyn College. In evening classes at the same time he pursued a scholarship from the Art Students' League. " At the age of 17, he volunteered for service in the U.S. Air Force. With his talents Feldstein was used as a sign painter and decorator aircraft. He also drew comic strips for publications of the Air Force.

After the war he found work in the comic book publishing EC Publications. The publisher William Gaines, first employed him as a draftsman, but soon gave him also the author of tasks. From 1950-55, he served as a draftsman and editor of several comic book series. In 1954, Feldstein publishing the satirical MAD sister magazine PANIC.

As Harvey Kurtzman 1956 MAD left, Feldstein moved into place and stayed there for 30 years editor in chief. He campaigned and kept artists such as Don Martin, Mort printer, Dave Berg, and others who shaped the style of the magazine. Mid-1970s, reaching MAD under Feldstein's aegis record runs of nearly 3 million booklets.

In 1984, he retired and began to work as a landscape painter. 2003 Albert Feldstein received the " Will Eisner Award" for his creative contributions to the American comic book industry.
