Al-Malikiyah

Al - Malkiyah (Arabic المالكية al - Malkiyah, Syro -Aramaic ܕ ܝ ܪ ܝ ܟ, Dêrik, Kurdish Derika Hemko ) is the name for both a district in the Syrian government of al -Hasakah, and for the same capital. The district is inhabited by Kurds, Arameans ( Syriac Christians ) and Arabs. The population of the entire district was given at the 2004 census, with 189 634. A well-known archaeological site in the district is Tell Hamoukar.

The city's name was Arabized during the policy of " Arab belt" and the Syrian army officer Adnan al - Malki modeled. The Aramaic name Dêrik refers to an original monastery. The northern district is mostly inhabited by Muslim Kurds and the southern district of Syrian Christians.
