Al Roelofs

Alexander " Al " Roelofs ( born October 27, 1906 in the Netherlands, † July 2, 1990 in Los Angeles ) was a Dutch -born art director in the American film.

Life

Born in the Netherlands, son of the US-based, Belgian-Dutch parents came to Los Angeles in 1922. There he made his first contacts with the movie as an extra and stuntman. So Roelofs doubled for example, the silent film star John Gilbert.

As a backdrop signatory Roelofs went in 1935 to Paramount Pictures, for whom he should work in the following three decades. Since the early 1950s it is detectable as a freelance art director, Al Roelofs recently took the position of chief architect and head of the character department. In the 1960s, Roelofs endowed mainly routine of film producer AC Lyles Western.

From Roelofs drafts of scenes stand out especially his late scene designs that he made on behalf of Walt Disney Productions. His Filmbauten to island at the end of the world in 1975 earned him an Oscar nomination one. His career ended the 70 -year-old Roelofs with the sci-fi film The Black Hole and Tron, who is regarded as the first fully computer-animated film.
