Al-Samh ibn Malik al-Khawlani

As- Samh ibn Malik al- Chawlani (Arabic السمح بن مالك الخولاني, DMG as- SAMH b Maalik al - Ḫawlānī; . † 721 ) was 719-721 governor of the Muslim occupied the Iberian Peninsula ( Al- Andalus ).

At the beginning of the 8th century it fell with a great army into the Frankish Empire. After some initial successes such as the siege of the city Narbonne, Béziers, Agde, Lodève, Maguelonne (Montpellier) and Nîmes he retired to the Iberian Peninsula to attract more fighters for the siege of the heavily defended Franconian town of Toulouse. He returned with a large army of over 375,000 fighters and siege machines.

The Battle of Toulouse ( 721 ), the battle for a city with almost insurmountable walls, lasted into the early summer. The defenders, starved and without supplies of ammunition wanted to almost revealed as on June 9, 721 arrived to the dux Eudo of Aquitaine with a large army of relief, as- Samhs rearguard attack and whose troops einkesselte.
