Alabaster is a city in Shelby County in the U.S. state of Alabama, United States, 17 miles south of the city of Birmingham located.

History

Alabaster is a relatively young city. 1925, by Joseph E. Walker, the first retail store was opened. The first bank opened in 1952 and its president - George L. Scott, Jr. - was the first mayor of the city. 1958, work began on the Shelby County Hospital in Alabaster, which was completed in 1959. The present Town Hall was built in 1960 and housed the public library at that time. The first shopping center was built in 1964.

Alabaster today

Today Alabaster is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. In just the last 10 years, the city's population has grown by 63%. The average age of residents is 33 years. Alabaster is a very good transport links by Interstate 65 and Interstate 459, so that cities such as Birmingham and Montgomery can be reached in less than an hour 's drive away.

Organised annually City festival attracts in the summer with live music and children's attractions regularly thousands of visitors, making it one of the largest public festivals in Shelby County. Beginning of December in each year, the largest Alabaster Christmas Parade Alabama instead. It is sponsored by the Beautification Association and the city has over 100 contributing groups.
