Alan Davies (rugby coach)

Alan Davies ( * in Ynysybwl, Rhondda Cynon Taf ) is a former Welsh rugby union player and coach.

Davies was born in Ynysybwl, but moved the age of ten to Nottingham. There he went to Loughborough College and played as a connector among other things, for the Bedford Blues and Nottingham RFC. As a coach, he led the teams from Nottingham, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire. Between 1986 and 1988 he coached the reserve of the English national team and assisted Geoff Cook of England during the tour to Australia and Fiji.

Due to the resignation of Ron Waldron the post of Welsh national coach was vacant just before the World Cup 1991. The association committed Davies initially only for the duration of the tournament, he remained in office until 1995, however, ultimately. At the World Cup Wales difference in the preliminary round by a defeat to Samoa. 1994 won the Welsh the Five Nations, the first sole victory in this tournament in the country after 15 years. After only the last place was reached the following year he resigned before the 1995 World Cup.
