Alan Mais, Baron Mais

Alan Raymond corn, corn Baron, of Walbrook in the City of London GBE ERD TD JP ( * July 7, 1911, † 28 November 1993) was a British politician, who in 1967 as a Life Peer because of the Life peerages Act 1958 a member of the House of Lords was and 1972-1973 elected as the first peer Lord Mayor of London was.

Life

During the Second World War corn did his military service in the Territorial Army of the British Army and was last to Major and temporary Lieutenant-Colonel (temporary Lieutenant Colonel) transported. For his military services he was with the Territorial Decoration (TD ), the Emergency Reserve Decoration (ERD ) and awarded on February 1, 1945 with the Officer's Cross of the Order of the British Empire ( OBE).

He succeeded by Sir Edward Howard, Lord Mayor of London in 1972 and was the first peer, who was elected mayor of London. On December 4, 1972 the City University London awarded him an honorary Doctor of Science. After one year of tenure in 1973 Hugh Wontner succeeded him as Lord Mayor, as he was appointed on 25 January 1974 by Queen Elizabeth II back to the Lieutenant of London.

In addition, it later became the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire awarded and appointed on 5 February 1976 back to one of the lieutenants of London. On November 16, 1981 he appointed the queen turn to one of the lieutenants of London.
