Alarum

Alarum is an Australian metal band from Melbourne, Victoria, founded in 1992. Their music is difficult to attribute to a single genre, and can be best described as a blend of Technical Death Metal, Progressive Metal, Thrash Metal and Jazz Fusion call.

History

The band was formed in 1992 by drummer Matthew Racovalis and guitarist Mark Evans. They held some gigs in Australia and released the demo Another World in 1994. The following year, the compilation Death Down Under DEF Records, on which the band was also represented with a song appeared. Later in the year guitarist Scott Young and bassist Mark Palfreyman joined the band.

Together they wrote new material and released in 1997 the album of fluid motion. The publication was followed by several appearances in Australia. A music video for the song was produced Realization. The band has also performed at various festivals such as the Metal for the Brain or the overcranked. In the following years the band worked on new songs and released several demos. In 2004 the second album Eventuality appeared at Willowtip Records or 2005 Earache Records in Europe.

In 2006, Alarum together with Necrophagist on tour in the USA. She also appeared on the The New England Hardcore & Metal Festival, the California Metalfest and the Maryland Death Fest. On this tour, Kelly Shaefer of Atheist occurred in Florida with the band and played with them the song Piece of Time by Atheist.

Style

The band is compared with other bands such as Atheist, Cynic and Watchtower. The gameplay is kept very complex, with melodic passages with interspersed. The singing is very varied and ranges from guttural vocals to clean vocals.

Awards

In 2005, the band at the Kerrang Australian Heavy Metal Awards won in the categories of Best Australian Album, Best Australian Bassist and Best Australian drummer.
