Albert of Saxe-Wittenberg, Duke of Lüneburg

Duke Albert of Saxe- Wittenberg ( † June 28, 1385 ) was the son of Otto ( † March 30, 1350 ), a younger son of the Elector Rudolf I of Saxe- Wittenberg, and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Duke William II of Brunswick- Lüneburg, and was born from 1370 to his death in 1385 Prince of Lüneburg.

Life

After the death of his grandfather Wilhelm he was enfeoffed jointly with his uncle Wenceslas of the Emperor Charles IV with the Principality of Lüneburg. Since Magnus II from the braunschweiger line of the Guelphs also laid claim to the Principality of Lüneburg was it the war of succession. 1374, there was a peace treaty with the sons of the late Duke Magnus meantime. This provided for an alternate government of the Principality and should be reaffirmed by the marriage with the widow of Albert the Great, Catherine of Anhalt- Bernburg. 1378 Albrecht Celle chose as his residence. Albrecht died in 1385 at the siege of the castle Rickingen.

Albrecht of Saxony -Wittenberg in 1374 married Catherine of Anhalt- Bernburg († 1390 ) and had a daughter:
