Albert Premier Hut

The Refuge Albert 1er is an alpine refuge of the Club Alpin Français ( CAF), section Chamonix. It consists of a wooden hut dating from 1930, which is today used as a winter cottage, and above a newer stone directly, which is open in summer. The cottage is named after King Albert I of Belgium, who opened on 30 August 1930. The stone building was erected in 1959.

The cabin is located above the lateral moraine of the Glacier du Tour, via which the ascent to the hut. Valley town is Le Tour, on the one hand connects him a way to the lower end of the lateral moraine ( difference in altitude 1300 meters ); other hand, a gondola and a chairlift to Col de Balme can be taken, of which a path to the top of the lateral moraine leads ( difference in altitude 500 meters).

The hut is a base for the ascent of the Aiguille du Tour and the Aiguille du Chardonnet.

The cottage is completely renovated since September 2012, and it is another floor put on the stone building in order to accommodate more guests in the future. The measures to be completed in 2014, the estimated cost is 2.5 million euros.
