Albert Traeger

Christian Gottfried Albert Traeger ( born June 12, 1830 in Augsburg, † March 26, 1912 in Charlottenburg) was Privy Councillor and parliamentarians of the Progressive People's Party.

Life

Traeger was born the son of an editor in Augsburg. The family moved in 1838 to Naumburg, where the father became head of a commercial business is, however, died in 1844. After leaving grammar school studied Traeger 1848-1851 Law and Political Sciences in Halle and Leipzig. In 1862 he became a lawyer and notary in Kölleda, 1875 in Nordhausen and from 1891 in Berlin. For the Liberal People's Party, he was 1874-1878, 1881-1887 and 1890-1912 member of the German Reichstag.

With Eugen Richter Traeger was a friend and joined by his mind and stood with Ludwig Windthorst in correspondence. In 1870, he represented, like Emanuel Geibel, a German - national war poetry. As editor of the yearbook German art in image and song he adapted himself to the founder of contemporary taste. His poetry has been criticized by Arno Holz. Opened on February 7, 1912 he was the Reichstag session as interim president.

Even as a writer and journalist emerged Traeger. He wrote, among other things for the magazines, the gazebo and the Berliner Tageblatt. In 1911, its already 1858 in Leipzig for the first time laid poems reached the 18th edition. In Kölleda its market-leading anthologies Voices of Love ( 1861), German songs in people's heart and mouth (1864 ) and songs, ballads, romances developed harmoniously connected with the visual arts (1871 ). His short stories and social sketches remained rather unnoticed.

The 37 -year-old married Traeger 1867, the 26 -year-old Caroline Ritter from Magdeburg. With her he had three children, of whom the couple in 1872 lost one. His wife died in 1873 at the age of 32 years. After the death of his wife he moved to November 10, 1875 the two remaining daughters to Nordhausen, 1891 in Berlin.

He was buried in the Trinity Cemetery II in Berlin -Kreuzberg.

Honors

According to him the Traegerstraße in the Berlin district of Schöneberg and the Albert Traeger Street were named in Kölleda and Nordhausen.
