Albert VI, Duke of Bavaria

Albrecht VI. of Bavaria, called the lights Berger ( born February 26, 1584 Munich, † July 5, 1666 ibid ) was Duke of Bavaria- Leuchtenberg from the house of Wittelsbach.

Life

Albrecht was the sixth son of ten children of Duke Wilhelm V of Bavaria (1548-1626) and his wife Princess Renata of Lorraine (1544-1602), daughter of Duke Francis I. and the Danish Princess Christina.

On February 26, 1612 married Prince Albert in Munich Mechthildis the princess of Leuchtenberg ( 1588-1634 ), daughter of Count Georg Ludwig and his wife Princess Marie Salome of Baden -Baden. From the harmonious marriage produced five children:

  • Maria Renata (1616-1630)
  • Karl Johann Franz (1618-1640)
  • Ferdinand Wilhelm (1620-1629)
  • Maximilian Heinrich (1621-1688), Elector and Archbishop of Cologne
  • Albrecht Sigismund (1623-1685), Bishop of Regensburg and Freising

Since his brother Duke Maximilian I of Bavaria long remained childless, it looked to the birth of Ferdinand Maria, then, that one of the children Albrechts would inherit the duchy of Bavaria. By marrying the princess Mechthildis Albert came in 1646 in the possession of the land County Leuchtenberg after the line of the Landgrave of Leuchtenberg was extinct in the male line. However, he described himself not as Landgraf, but as Duke of Leuchtenberg. In 1650 he exchanged his brother Elector Maximilian I. the imperial county Hague for a Leuchtenberg. Leuchtenberg was his nephew Maximilian Philipp Hieronymus.

Albrecht died on July 5, 1666 in Munich and was buried in the Sanctuary in Altötting.
