Albino Aroso

Albino Aroso Ramos ( born February 22, 1923 in Vila do Conde, † December 26, 2013 in Porto ) was a Portuguese physician and politician. He was regarded as "the father of family planning in Portugal ."

Career

Aroso was born as the third of six brothers. The father died early. After a high school visit to a medical school took on at the University of Porto, which he completed at the age of 24 years. He entered the service of the Hospital Geral de Santo António in Porto, where he was Chairman of the Board later.

In 1967 he co-founded the Associação para o Planeamento since Familia, two years later opened the first public and free family counseling center in Portugal.

Until his retirement, he taught as an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Instituto de Ciências BioMedica Abel Salazar ( ICBAS ) of the University of Porto.

He was deputy assistant secretary at the Portuguese Ministry of Health in the XI. constitutional government (1987-1991).
