Aleksandar Matanović

Aleksandar Matanović (* May 23, 1930 in Belgrade ) is a Yugoslavian, now Serbian grandmaster in chess. He is the editor of Schachinformators.

Chess players

Aleksandar Matanović won the Yugoslav Junior Championship at age 18. 1952, 1959 and 1968, he won at the championship of Yugoslavia. Other achievements include his victories in tournaments Opatija in 1953 and Hamburg in 1955. He participated in the Chess Olympiads in 1964 in Tel Aviv, 1968 in Lugano, 1970 in Siegen and 1972 in Skopje.

1951 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master in 1955 he became Grand Master.

His Elo rating is 2490 (as of October 2007), but he is listed as inactive.

Publisher

1966 Matanović was first published the magazine Chess Informant, a world-renowned collection of each 600 to 700 current major chess games. In 1974 he published a standard work in the field of chess with the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings.
