Aleksandr Kovalenko

Alexander Jurjewitsch Kovalenko (Russian Александр Юрьевич Коваленко, English transcription Aleksandr Yuryevich Kovalenko, . Born May 8, 1963 in Bobruisk, Byelorussian SSR ) is a retired Russian triple jumper.

Starting for the Soviet Union, he finished at the World Athletics Championships 1987 in Rome with a width of 17.38 m to fourth place in the triple jump behind Christo Markov, Mike Conley and Oleg Sakirkin. The greatest success of his career came at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. There Kovalenko won with a width of 17.42 m the bronze medal behind Christo Markov ( 17.61 m) and Igor Lapshin ( 17.52 m).

At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona Kovalenko came to the United team. He jumped 17.06 meters and finished at the end of the seventh rank.

Alexander Kovalenko is 1,78 m tall and had a competition weight of 80 kg. He started for the SKA Leningrad, and the SKA Minsk. He married Tatiana Kasankina and, after the end of his sports career mathematics lecturer at the St. Petersburg University.
