Aleksei Yeliseyev

Alexei Stanislavovich Jelissejew (Russian Алексей Станиславович Елисеев; actually Alexei Kuraitis, born July 13, 1934 in Schisdra, Kaluga oblast, Russian SFSR ) is a retired Soviet cosmonaut.

Alexei Stanislavovich Jelissejew was born Alexei Kuraitis. His father was Stanislaw A. Kuraitis Lithuanians, his mother Russian. After 1939 his father had been convicted for alleged anti-Soviet propaganda to five years hard labor in a gulag, he took out of fear of future reprisals in 1950 the name of his mother.

Training

Jelissejew studied mechanical engineering at the Moscow State Technical NEBauman University in Moscow, where he graduated in 1957; he worked up to his admission as a cosmonaut as an engineer in rocket design office Sergei Korolev. Incorporated in 1967 as a candidate of technical sciences doctorate in engineering in 1973 Doctor of Technical Sciences.

Spaceman activity

After Jelissejew had been taken in 1966 in the cosmonaut corps, the engineer was chosen on 27 May 1968 with the construction of the Central Bureau of mechanical engineering as a cosmonaut. On January 15, 1969, he flew as a Flight Engineer on Soyuz 5 in the space where his ship was formed by coupling with Soyuz 4, the first experimental orbital station. By EVA he rose on January 16, 1969, together with Yevgeny Khrunov in Soyuz 4 to. Nine months later Jelissejew served as a flight engineer member of the crew of Soyuz 8, who performed the first group flight of three spaceships along with Soyuz 6 and Soyuz 7. His last flight into space had Jelissejew also as a flight engineer of Soyuz 10, which carried out an experimental coupling to Salyut 1.

Subsequent activities

After Alexei Eliseev on December 19, 1985 retired from the cosmonaut corps, he was Rector of the Bauman Moscow University. In 1991 he was forced to retire.

Private

Jelissejew is married and has one child.

Awards

Alexei Jelissew was twice awarded the Order of Hero of the Soviet Union (January 22, and October 22, 1969 ), and twice with the Order of Lenin.
