Aleksey Pleshcheyev

Alexei Nikolaevich Pleschtschejew (Russian Алексей Николаевич Плещеев; * 22 Novemberjul / December 4 1825greg in Kostroma, .. .. † 26 Septemberjul / October 8 1893greg in Paris) was a Russian poet. As a member of Petrashevsky circle, he was sentenced to death, reprieved after a mock execution of Tsar exiled to Orenburg, convened there for military service. After ten years, he was released, lived in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. In old age, he inherited a fortune, came to France and lived in Paris until death. He translated works of Heinrich Heine in the Russian language. He also wrote mainly poetry and children's songs. After his death, he was transferred to Russia and buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
