The airfield Alert is the most northerly air base of the earth. It is located on the territory of the Canadian territory of Nunavut, about 840 km south of the geographic North Pole, and was built during the construction of the military base of Alert in 1958. The airport is operated by the Canadian military and is closed to civil aviation. It is used principally for the carriage of persons and goods, if it is not possible because of the extremely short Arctic summer and the pack ice to get through with the ship. Weekly supply flights by C -130 and C-17, make sure the supply of CFS Alert.

Due to icy runway, there have been two aircraft accidents.
