Alex Webb (photographer)

Alex Webb, actually: Alexander D. Webb ( born May 5, 1952 in San Francisco, California, USA) is an American photographer.

Life

Through his father learned Webb, born in 1952 in San Francisco, taking pictures. From 1968 he pursued this hobby professionally. At Harvard University, he studied literature and history ( 1970-1974 ). From 1972, he studied photography with Bruce Davidson and Charles Harbutt in Apeiron Photo Workshop in New York. After his studies he worked as a freelance photographer and his images have been published in magazines such as LIFE, GEO and the NY Times Magazine.

In 1976 he was " associate " at Magnum. In the next few years he photographed the American South and began to devote himself to color photography. In 1979 he became a full member of Magnum. He undertook many journeys, which then inspired him to his reports. This is also how his series on the US-Mexico border region, for which he was awarded the 1980 Overseas Press Club Award.

Works

In 1986, he created with " Hot Light / Half -Made Worlds ," a picture book, the Fred Ritchin one of the " younger major works " of the agency. He photographed many years, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Mexico and put together these photographs because they were the same voltages and mysteries for him all. In the foreground is the atmosphere of the tropics, which is enhanced mainly by the intense colors.

After Webb made ​​a documentary about Haiti: "Under A grudging Sun: Photographs From Haiti Libere ". His travels also brought him again to Florida, which is why in 1996 he released a collection of his pictures in "From The Sunshine State: Photographs From Florida " published. He describes the great diversity of this state by means of images of bathing tourists, the Everglades, golf equipment, Christmas trees on the beach or across the street walking in the deer. His recent work includes mainly photographs for advertisements.
