Alex Young (footballer born 1937)

Alex "Sandy" Young ( born February 3, 1937 in Loanhead in Midlothian County ) is a former Scottish footballer.

Life and career

Young began his career at Newtongrange Star, but quickly changed to Heart of Midlothian. He made ​​his debut for Hearts at the age of 18 years. In 1958 he already won the Scottish championship titles giving him two years later, again succeeded. 1960 after his second Scottish league title, he moved to Everton for a fee of £ 42,000. In 1963 he won the English championship with the Toffees. During his time in England, he was nicknamed "The Golden Vision". The success continued and he won the 1966 FA Cup. Two years later he moved to FC Glentoran in Northern Ireland. After a year on the island of Ireland, he played briefly at Stockport County, where he had to end his career due to a serious knee injury. After his career he worked in the family business before he sat down to rest. In August 2001, a testimonial match was held in his honor at Goodison Park, which visited 20,000 spectators.
