Alexander Baillie

Alexander Baillie (born 6 January 1956 in the UK ) is a British cellist.

Biography

Baillie began in the age of 12 to play the cello, where he was inspired by Jacqueline du Pré. At age 16, he began studying at the Royal College of Music in London with lessons with Joan Dickson and Anna Shuttleworth. Later he continued his studies with a scholarship to study abroad with André Navarra in Vienna and took her by Jacqueline du Pré hours.

Baillie appears regularly with major orchestras around the world and is a member of various chamber music ensembles. He has, inter alia, premiered the seven love songs by Hans Werner Henze and recorded several CDs, including the sonatas for cello and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven and the Cello Suites by Benjamin Britten.

He lives in Bremen and since 1994 has been professor of cello at the University of the Arts Bremen. He is an Honorary Doctor of the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom and founder of the " Gathering of the Clans " Summer Cello School.
