Joan Dickson

Joan Dickson Katharine Balfour ( born December 21, 1921 in Edinburgh, † October 9, 1994 in London) was a British cellist and music educator significant.

Life

From 1942 to 1945 she studied cello with Ivor James at the Royal College of Music in London and later with Pierre Fournier in Paris. From 1948 to 1950 she worked in Andre Mangeot Quartet. Then studied with Enrico Mainardi in Rome, Salzburg and Lucerne. In 1954 she became a professor at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music. In 1957 she played with the London Symphony Orchestra under Basil Cameron Edmund Rubbra Soliloquy. She also performed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. In 1967, she was then a professor at the Royal College of Music. In 1981 she taught at the University of Durham. Among her students to include Alexander Baillie, Andrew Shulman, Richard Harwood and Gwyn Pritchard.
