Royal Scottish National Orchestra

Under its first Scottish -born and longest-standing conductor, Sir Alexander Gibson, the orchestra began to develop an international profile. Suitable for Gibson's own specialist area, the orchestra was known for his interpretations of Scandinavian composers, especially Sibelius and Carl Nielsen. This orientation solidified under Neeme Järvi, who led the orchestra through its first complete Mahler cycle. Bryden Thomson, the second Scot, who led the orchestra, kept up the connection to Nordic music, including a performance cycle of Nielsen symphonies and the start of the fourth and sixth symphony Nielsen, which are among the best in the world.

The RSNO usually plays in the Henry Wood Hall in Glasgow in which the photographs are taken. However, it sees the orchestra as its special commitment to performing in all of Scotland and visited particularly the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Usher Hall, Edinburgh ( temporarily Edinburgh Festival Theatre ), Dundee Caird Hall, Aberdeen Music Hall, Perth Concert Hall and Eden Court Inverness regularly.

The second CD of the cycle was released in 2008 to great critical acclaim.

The choir not only occurs together with the orchestra, but is also independent on tour abroad. The current choir director since 2006, Timothy Dean.
