Walter Weller

Walter Weller ( born November 30, 1939 in Vienna) is an Austrian violinist and conductor.

Life

Walter Weller was in the years 1961-1972 concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. In 1966, after his conducting studies with Josef Krips ( 1902-1974 ) made ​​his debut as a conductor. Weller was from the year 1971/72 General Music Director of the Duisburg Symphony Orchestra, 1975-78 chief conductor at low Tonkünstlerorchester and 1977-1980 with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, which appointed him after the contract expires honorary guest conductor for life. 1980-1986 was followed by the chief post in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, then to 1991 he was chief guest conductor of the Orquesta Nacional de España. From 1992 to 1997 he was musical director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, from 1994, Music Director of the Music Society, in Basel, Opera Director of the Basel Theatre and principal conductor of the Basel Symphony Orchestra. The Stuttgart Philharmonic Walter Weller 2003 awarded the title of " Honorary Conductor ". Weller Quartet

In 1959, Walter Weller, a string quartet, the Weller Quartet. After a few shots for Universal, the quartet ended his concert career in 1971.
