Alexander Blok

Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Blok (Russian Александр Александрович Блок, scientific transliteration Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Blok, born 16 Novemberjul / November 28 1880greg in Saint Petersburg, .. † August 7, 1921 in Petrograd ) was a poet of Russian modernism. He was next to Andrei Bely, the most important representatives of the second generation of the so-called symbolists.

Life

Alexander Blok was born the son of a law professor and a literary translator in 1880 in Petersburg. In 1906 he graduated at the university from his studies of philology and law.

As early as 1902 he published a first cycle of poems published in the journal New Way ( Новый путь ). His early works were influenced by the Romantic literature that was familiar to him since his childhood, and the Philosophy Solovyov and his concept of Sophiology. He described his experiences in the early work of love verses ( о Стихи Прекрасной Даме, 1898-1904 ) from the beautiful lady on poetic- mystical way. However, already in his second book of poems (1904-1908) joined the mystical setting in the background; it was replaced by concerned and patriotic and socially critical tones.

A trip to Italy in the spring of 1909 gave Blok distance to the events of the Russo- Japanese War and the social problems of his country, which he described as middle-class family and student perceived very well. His 1909-1916 incurred poem cycle terrible world reflects the inner conflicts between Beyond Illusions, Russian reality and personal problems. After nearly two years of creative standstill since 1916, emerged in 1918 the poems Twelve ( Двенадцать ) and Scythians ( Скифы ).

On August 7, 1921 Alexander Blok died in his apartment from malnutrition; He was buried three days later in the family grave in the Smolensk cemetery. 1944, the remains were transferred to the Wolkowo Cemetery.

The asteroid ( 2540 ) Blok was named after him.
