Alexander F. I. Forbes

Alexander Forbes Irvine Forbes ( born April 13, 1871 in Kinellar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland; † 15 May 1959 Cape Town ) was a South African architect and an amateur astronomer Scottish origin.

Forbes came to South Africa in 1896. He returned to his studies in Scotland, before he finally emigrated to South Africa in 1909. Until 1932 he worked as an architect. From 1942 to 1943, Forbes President of the Astronomical Society of South Africa.

Forbes discovered four comets. In 1928 he was co-discoverer of Comet Pons- Winnecke -Forbes - Coggia, 27P/Crommelin named. In 1929 he discovered the periodic comet named after him 37P/Forbes C/1930 L1 and 1930 Forbes and 1932 C/1932 Y1 Dodwell -Forbes.
