Alexander H. Buell

Alexander Hamilton Buell ( * July 14, 1801 in Fairfield, New York, † January 29, 1853 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1851 and 1853 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Alexander Hamilton Buell was born in the early 19th century in Fairfield in Herkimer County. He attended district schools and the Faifield Academy. After that he went commercial transactions after in Fairfield, but operating mainly grocery stores (general stores ) in other cities. In 1845 he sat in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1850 for the 32nd Congress Buell was in the 17th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Henry P. Alexander on March 4, 1851. He died, however, before the end of his term on January 29, 1853 in Washington DC His body was then buried in the Episcopal Cemetery in Fairfield.

Honors

A memorial ( cenotaph ) was erected in honor of him in the Congressional Cemetery.
