Alexander II of Epirus

Alexander II (Greek Ἀλἑξανδρος; † 245/40 BC) succeeded his father Pyrrhus I as King of the Molosser and hegemon of Epirus in 272 BC His mother was Lanassa, the daughter of King Agathocles of Syracuse. Alexander died in 242 BC

He attacked Antigonus Gonatas II of Macedon and conquered the greater part of his country, but was successively sold by his son, Demetrius II, both from Macedonia and Epirus. With the help of Acarnanians and Aetolians, he managed to regain his kingdom.

Alexander had taken his (half - ) sister to wife Olympias, the only sibling marriage among the Aiakiden. They had two sons, Pyrrhus II and Ptolemy, and the daughter Phthia who was married to Demetrius II of Macedon.
