Alexander (son of Polyperchon)

Alexandros (Greek Ἀλέξανδρος, latin Alexander; * before 334 BC; † 314 BC) was a Macedonian commander during the Diadochenkriege. He was a son of the Regent Polyperchon, his wife was the Macedonian nobles Kratesipolis.

At the conference of Triparadeisos Alexander was regent of the kingdom, Antipater 's bodyguard ( somatophylax ) of King Philip III. Arrhidaios appointed. During the second Diadochenkrieges he fought for his father against Cassander, son of Antipater. He was sent in the spring of 317 BC to Attica, where he was at the commander Nicanor obtain the surrender of Piraeus. Despite an additional Warrant of Queen Olympias he failed because Nicanor took the side of Cassander.

After the defeat of his father, 316 BC, Alexander went with him to the Peloponnese. During the third Diadochenkrieges he acted 315 BC in Tyros his father's alliance with Antigonus Monophthalmos from. But shortly afterwards he betrayed his father and went over to the side of Cassander, who appointed him his strategists in the Peloponnese. Alexander brought several cities in the alliance one, especially Sicyon and Corinth, which he now ruled independently.

During a campaign against enemy cities Alexander was murdered by their own warriors. The assassins were from Sicyon and probably felt regain with this fact, the autonomy of their city. But his widow perpetrated bloody vengeance on the city, forcing them to recognize their rule.
