Alexandre Moret

Alexandre Moret ( born September 19, 1868 in Aix -les- Bains, † February 2nd 1938 in Paris) was a French Egyptologist and philologist.

After his studies at Victor Loret in Lyon and at Gaston Maspero in Paris, he taught himself first in Lyon. Then he moved in 1899 to the École pratique des hautes études, where he most recently worked as Directeur d' Études d' Egyptologie to 1920. Most recently he worked at the Sorbonne and the Collège de France. It dealt mainly with the ancient Egyptian religion, doctrine and history. Moret, who himself did not pursue field research and was never in Egypt, is considered an influential figure in the French Egyptology his time.
