Alexei Fridman

Alexei Maximowitsch Fridman (Russian Алексей Максимович Фридман; born February 17, 1940 in Moscow, USSR at that time, † October 29, 2010 in Jerusalem, Israel) was a Russian physicist.

Life

Alexei Fridman was born the son of Maxim Jefimowitsch Fridman ( surgeon ) and Felizija Jakovlevna Scheinbaum ( lawyer ) on 17 February 1940 in Moscow. In the 1950s, the family moved to Frunze (now Bishkek ) in the Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1963, Fridman graduated from the Novosibirsk State University. Fridman received his doctorate in 1966 for PhD ( candidate nauk ) and was from this year as a junior researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk active. From 1971 to 1979 he was Head of Laboratory at IZMIRAN in Irkutsk and qualified in 1976 as a Doctor of Sciences ( doktor nauk ). Then Fridman was Senior Scientist at the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, where he was the stars and planetary systems since 1986 Head of the Institute of Physics. In Moscow he worked at the Moscow State University as a university teacher. Since 1991, Fridman Organizing Committee of the IAU. In 1994, Fridman Corresponding Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and in 2000 was elected Academician.

Fridman received many national and international awards during his time as a researcher. So it was 1989, the USSR State Prize, awarded. In addition, he was awarded twice (2003 and 2008), the State Prize of the Russian Federation. He died after a long illness on October 29, 2010 in Jerusalem.
