Alexey Bystrow

Alexei Petrovich Bystrov (Russian Алексей Петрович Быстров; born 1 February 1899 in the Ryazan Oblast; † August 29, 1959 in Leningrad ) was a paleontologist, anatomist and histologist from Russia.

Biography

Alexei Bystrov was born in the family of a peasant priest and a teacher in the Ryazan Oblast. First he attended the village school, and later a pen. In 1917 he joined the Alumnat of Ryazan, but this was resolved in 1918 by the new rulers. Subsequently, he studied at the Academy of Medicine, where he was especially interested in anatomy and vertebrate paleontology. In 1937 he moved to Moscow. Here Bystrov worked in the Paleontological Institute (Department of Lower vertebrates ). In 1939 he returned to Leningrad, where he worked until the German attack on the Soviet Union, then he was evacuated to Kirov. In February 1943 Bystrov was promoted to lieutenant colonel of the medical service.

After the war, Alexei Bystrov taught in Leningrad at the local university, where he wrote many scientific works.

Bystrov died in 1959 and was buried in Leningrad.

A Cape of Jackson island in the archipelago Franz Josef Land was named after him.
