Alexius, Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt
Prince Alexius Friedrich zu Bentheim and Steinfurt (* January 20, 1781, † November 3, 1866 ) was a German nobleman in the Kingdom of Hanover (former county of Bentheim ) and the Kingdom of Prussia (former county of Steinfurt ). The residence was Bentheim. Its full title was: Prince and Lord of the two counties of Bentheim and Steinfurt as well Tecklenburg and Limburg, Lord of Rheda, Wevelinghoven, Hoya, Alps and Helfenstein, Erbvogt of Cologne.
Family
He came of the younger branch of the House of Bentheim- Steinfurt. His father was Prince Ludwig Wilhelm Ernst Geldricus of Bentheim and Steinfurt. The mother was Wilhelmine ( nee von Holstein - Glücksburg ). He married on October 17, 1811 Caroline Wilhelmine Frederica Maria, Princess of Solms- Braunfels. The marriage produced six children. Among the principal heir Ludwig was of Bentheim and Steinfurt.
Life
He studied at Marburg among others, Johann Stephan Putter. After the death of his father, he took over as Standesherr in connection with the Congress of Vienna (1815 ) new errichtere caste domination, whose territory was before 1806 ( Confederation of the Rhine ) under the sovereignty of the House of Bentheim- Steinfurt. The two counties covered an area of 19.9 square miles with approximately 26,000 inhabitants. The annual income of the princes were estimated at 160,000 guilders.
Shortly after the acquisition of caste domination, he was sued in 1821 by the line of Bentheim-Tecklenburg - Rheda. It was about the possession of the counties of Bentheim and Steinfurt.
