Alfons Dorfner

Alfons Dorfner ( born January 27, 1911 in Lembach im Mühlkreis, Upper Austria, † 22 January 1982) was an Austrian canoeist.

Life

The baker Alfons Dorfner wanted to be a boxer. But when he met Adolf Kainz, he was inspired by this for windsurfing, kayaking, began with this competitive excessive training.

By some success in international regattas they secured the Olympic qualification. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 they succeeded with a brilliant finish victory in the kayak competition two above 1000 m ( with a record margin of more than five seconds) on a Breinbauer kayak.

Dorfners career was abruptly interrupted by the Second World War. Later he took while training again, but was shot in 1948 at a training cruise on the Danube and seriously injured.

In his home town of a street name to remember in the vicinity of his home and the name of the " Alfons Dorfner hall " to the Olympic champion. In addition, the gold medal and other prizes in the local museum of Lembach are issued.
