Alfred Felix Landon Beeston

Alfred Felix Landon Beeston ( born February 23, 1911 in Barnes, † 29 September 1995) was a British Orientalist. He was mainly known for his research on the Arabic language and literature as well as to South Arabian philology.

Beeston was born in Barnes, South West London, and attended Westminster School. At the age of 14, he was fascinated by issued at the British Museum Old South Arabian inscriptions and therefore already dealt as a student with the Arabic. From 1929 he attended the Oxford Christ Church; In 1933 he received a first prize in Arabic and Persian. From November 1940 to April 1946 he served in the Intelligence Corps in Palestine. In 1957 he became professor of Arabic at Oxford, until he retired in 1979.
