Alfred S. Bloomingdale

Alfred Schiffer Bloomingdale ( born April 15, 1916 in New York City; † August 22, 1982 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American entrepreneur.

Life

His father was a Jewish businessman Hiram Bloomingdale and his mother Rosalind Bloomingdale. Alfred Bloomingdale grew up in New York City. He studied at Brown University in Providence. In the 1940s he was briefly married to Barbara Brewster. From his father he took over the trading company Bloomingdale's. In the 1950s, he financed the credit card company founded by Frank McNamara Diners Club, which he bought in 1952 and sold again in 1969.

1981 Bloomingdale member of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board by Ronald Reagan, with whom he and his wife were friends privately.

Bloomingdale was married to his second wife Betsy Bloomingdale, with whom he had three children. During the late years of their marriage he had an affair with model Vicki Morgan, who was assassinated in 1983 in California.
