Alfred Stelzner

Alfred Stelzner ( born November 29, 1852 in Hamburg, † July 9, 1906 in Dresden ) was a German instrument maker and composer.

Stelzner received both a musical and mathematical education in his youth. As a string instrument maker, he worked in Wiesbaden, and later in Dresden. Since 1891 he drew attention to himself by built according to a new developed system he stringed instruments. Special attention was given to his attempt to introduce two new genera for String Instruments size: violotta and Cellone, which found application in, among other works of Edward Behm, Felix Draeseke, Arnold Krug and Max von Schillings. In his own operatic compositions integrated Stelzner violotta and Cellone fully satisfying in the symphonic orchestra.

Advised by the bankruptcy of his company in financial difficulties overly committed suicide Stelzner 1906.

Stelzner wrote the operas Rubezahl (1902 ) and Swatowits end ( 1903), as well as the unperformed children of death and Cecilia.
