Algimantas Puipa

Algimatas Puipa ( born June 14, 1951 in Antalieptė at Zarasai ) is a Lithuanian film director.

Puipa started as an amateur filmmaker and as such won several awards, including the Film Festival Brno. In 1974 he graduated with a diploma film from Keliozenklai be studied directing at the Film Academy WGIK in Moscow. Since then he has worked on feature films and documentaries. He has produced over twenty films.

Puipas films often play in rural areas. His film A woman and her four men (1983 ) begins with two brothers and her father the third brother find dead and then marries the elder brother of the deceased brother's widow. The films Ir th krantai smėlėti (1991) and Vilko Dantu karoliai (1997) ran in competition at the International Film Festival Karlovy Vary. Elze iš Gilijos (1999) was created by Ernst Wichert's story The Schaktarp. The film Nuodėmės užkalbėjimas he turned based on novels by Jurga Ivanauskaitė. It's about a young woman and her admirers, including a priest who has fallen in love with her ​​as he took care of her husband in a mental hospital. This film was released in March 2007 and with over 70,000 visitors in two months for commercial success.
