Career

Batatais began his career with the Associação Portuguesa de Desportos in Sao Paulo. After a year in this rather mid-table club it was for him to continue Palmeiras São Paulo, where he remained not even a season. He quit after Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's soccer capital to join the club Fluminense to join. In the very first season with Fluminense managed Algisto Lorenzo, who was active on the position of the goalkeeper, winning the state championship in Rio de Janeiro. Only a year later he and his team were able to repeat the title. Still three more times succeeded Batatais winning the state championship in Rio de Janeiro, in the years 1939, 1940 and 1941, each with Fluminense. In 1942 he moved due to lack of operating times for Club América, also from Rio de Janeiro to return after one year to Fluminense in 1947 and to end his career.

In the National Team of Brazil Algisto Lorenzato three times was active. With the selection of his native country, he participated in the third World Cup history, in France in 1938, in part. There, the Selecao failed in the semi-final on eventual champions Italy. In the end, the team was third after the match for third place Sweden was defeated. Previously they had played against Poland 6-5 in extra time and against Czechoslovakia 2-1 in a replay after the first game 1:1 ran out after extra time and penalties had not yet devised. Batatais completed all three of his matches in the World Cup and later came out with no further use in the Brazilian national team.
