Alistipes

Alistipes is a genus of bacteria. The type species is Alistipes Putredinis.

Appearance

The cells are straight or slightly curved rods. The diameter is 0.2 to 0.9 microns, the length is from 0.5 to 4 microns. The Gram test is negative. You are not movable. Spores are not formed. The cells usually occur alone or in pairs. In Alistipes finegoldii even longer filaments may occur. Alistipes is obligate anaerobes. Except for Alistipes Putredinis the catalase test is positive for all species.

Growth and metabolism

Optimal growth is at 37 ° C. Alistipes is chemo- organotroph. Metabolism is the fermentation. The products are succinic acid ( succinic acid ) and small amounts of acetic acid. The type Alistipes Putredinis is saccharolytic than the exception, that is, it is able to digest carbohydrates, and not pigment- forming.

Occurrence

Alistipes occurs in the intestine of humans and animals. Rarely it occurs pathogen, it has been demonstrated in intra-abdominal infections.

System

Based on 16S rRNA analysis, the genus Alistipes to the family within the order Bacteroidales Rikenellaceae is provided in the Department Bacteroidetes. The following species are assigned to the genus:

  • Alistipes finegoldii Rautio et al. 2003
  • Alistipes indistinctus Nagai et al. 2010
  • Alistipes onderdonkii Song et al. 2006
  • Alistipes Putredinis ( Weinberg et al. 1937) Rautio et al. 2003
  • Alistipes shahii Song et al. 2006
