Rikenellaceae

The Rikenellaceae are a family of bacteria. The type genus is Riken Ella. It is named after the Riken Institute in Japan.

Appearance

The cells are rod-shaped. They are straight or, for example, in Alistipes, slightly curved. Spores are not formed. The size of Alistipes ranges from 0.2 to 0.9 microns in diameter and 0.5 to 4 microns in length, 0.5 to 0.6 microns in Anaerocella in width and 1.5 to 2.5 microns in length.

Growth and metabolism

All species are anaerobic. The metabolism is via fermentation and chemo - organotroph. Some products of the fermentation of glucose by Riken screen are propionic acid, succinic acid ( succinic acid ), acetic acid and small amounts of alcohols, of Alistipes succinic acid and small amounts of acetic acid. Anaerocella produces, among other isobutyric acid.

Occurrence

Riken screen has been isolated among others in the droppings of chickens and calves Alistipes from the intestine of human beings and various animals.

System

The Rikenellaceae family will be provided to the order Bacteroidales in the Department of Bacteroidetes. It consists of three genera:
