Blunt wrote five of his songs on the Back to Bedlam Tour. He then tested before live audiences. To write the other songs he moved in the summer of 2006 back to Ibiza. When he came back to the island in the winter his boiler was stolen. In an interview he said that he then sat with coat, hat and gloves in his room and played the piano and wrote new songs that were less happy than the one he wrote in the summer.
Tom Rothrock, who has also cooperated with Back to Bedlam, produced and mixed the album. Blunt was involved as a songwriter on all of his songs.
