Allan Spear

Henry Allan Spear (* June 24, 1937 in Michigan City, Indiana, † October 11, 2008 in Minneapolis, Minnesota ) was an American politician.

Life

Spear attended Oberlin College and graduated from Yale University. He became a member of the Democratic Party and sat from 1973 to 2008 in the Minnesota Senate. From January 1993 to January 2001 he served as president of the Senate. After his public coming out on November 9, 1974 Spear was among the first elected U.S. representatives of the people who lived openly homosexual.

His longtime life companion was Junjiro Tsuji, with whom he lived in Minneapolis.
