Allotropa virgata

Allotropa virgata is a species of the family Ericaceae ( Ericaceae ) and the only species of its genus.

Description

Allotropa virgata is a chlorophyll -less, myco - heterotrophic herbaceous plant. Their roots are fibrous, the burgeoning of them shoot and inflorescence axis is upright and is striped red and white. The leaves are simple, bracteoles absent.

The inflorescence is many flowered, the bracts are five in a petal circle are non grow and bell-shaped. The ten (rarely nine to eleven) stamens are as long as the perianth, the anthers turn to late. The stylus is pressed, expands the scar.

The seeds are linear, thin-walled and have elongated cells. The chromosome number is n = 13

Dissemination

The species is found in the western United States at altitudes 80-3000 meters.

Species and genus were first described in 1858 by Asa Gray.
