Almaty Tower

The TV tower Almaty is situated on the mountain Kok - Töbe ( Kazakh for: green hills ) in the Kazakh city of Almaty.

The built in vertical cantilever tower is 371.5 meters high and has two operating bullets at 146 meters and 252 meters which are accessible by two lifts. However, it is not open to the public.

Was built the Tower 1975-1983 by the architects Tersijew, Savchenko, Akimov and Ostrumow.

Unlike many similar TV towers it is not a concrete, but a steel pipe design. It is the tallest free-standing steel construction in the world. Since Almaty is particularly prone to earthquakes, the TV tower was constructed so that it has to bear shocks up to a thickness of 10 on the Richter scale.
