Almir Velagić

Almir Velagic ( born August 22, 1981 in Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia ) is a German sports soldier and weightlifters.

Almir Velagic, a native Bosnian, began in 1992 with the weightlifting at AC Kaufbeuren. For the club he started until mid-2009 even at individual competitions, but then switched to the AV 03 Speyer. The Superschwergewichtler occurs since 2006 also for the team of SV Germania Obrigheim on, before he started for the AC forestry. By 2004 Velagic came in the heavyweight division at up to 105 kg but then switched due to stagnant performance in the Super Heavyweight over 105 kg. The sport soldier belongs to the sports promotion company of the Bundeswehr in Bruchsal.

At the World Championship 2005 Velagic reached number eleven, 2006 and 2007, he was in eighth place twelfth. The European Championships in 2007, he finished sixth. 2005, 2006 and 2007 Velagic was also German champion in the super heavy weight over 105 kg. With strong performance of the Alps Adriatic Cup 2008, he qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where he finished in eighth place with 413 kg ( 188 kg snatch and 225 kg pushing ) and simultaneously aufstellte a personal best.

At the European Championships in 2009 in Bucharest Velagic won with a new personal best of 190 kg in the snatch the bronze medal behind Shymechko and Pisarev, as well as bronze and jerk with 228 kg and silver in a duel with 418 kg behind Shymechko 433 kg. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 he reached the eighth place in the weight class above 105kg.
