Almond milk

Almond milk is a product made from almonds and herbal drink water. Is also used in various toiletries almond milk application.

History

In the Middle Ages the almond milk ( amygdalate with Latinized name ) was known. It spread from the Iberian Peninsula in Europe to East Asia. Both in the Islamic as well as in the Christian world has been popular due to their pure plant composition ( mainly of almonds, various fruits and seeds) and was used to fast food. In medieval recipes almond milk is an ingredient commonly used, even if their production is usually not described in detail. However, one can assume that she was a well-known ingredient that therefore needed no explanation.

Almond milk was recommended for the supportive treatment of dysentery in the Naples area still in 1828:

" The stranger cares like to experience bouts of dysentery; where you warn the Gebrauche superheating means, and the simple enjoyment of strong, simultaneous with snow almond milk, or Sorbetti, Orgiaten and compare cooling beverages shall advise if a can not be drawn with the same air of familiar doctor Rahte. Production

For the production of almond milk poured over freshly ground and then angeröstete almonds or almond paste ( Sicily Pasta di Mandorla ) with warm to hot water and let them draw several hours. The filtered-off almond milk can be refined according to taste or sweetened with spices (such as vanilla, cinnamon, orange blossom water).

Dissemination

Almond milk is a typical drink in Sicily, where it is available as a Latte di Mandorla, as in Calabria, Apulia and in the Spanish cuisine. In the Mallorcan cuisine almond milk is processed into almond sorbet, which traditionally accompanies almond cake. In the U.S. - and increasingly in Germany - obtained almond milk in supermarkets in addition to numerous other milk substitutes and milk variants - such as lactose-free milk.
