Alojz Rebula

Alojz rebula ( born July 21, 1924 in St. Polai ( Šempolaj / San Pelagio ) in Trieste ) is a Slovenian writer, translator into Italian and from Latin and Greek.

Life

Rebula attended high school in Gorizia and Udine, studied classical philology in Ljubljana ( Laibach ) 1960 and wrote his dissertation in Rome about Slovenian translations of Dante's "Divine Comedy". He was a teacher of Latin and Greek in the Slovenian Lyceum " Prešeren " in Trieste and co-editor at the Trieste Slovene literary magazines " Sidro ", " Tokovi " and " musts " and the Carinthian Slovenian magazine " Celovški Zvon " and its successor journal " Zvon " in which he published his diary. After graduating, he found his way to the Catholic faith and has remained as a thinker, writer and lecturer in Trieste, Slovenia and Carinthia active.

His thinking is rooted in the work of the French philosopher Jacques Maritain, which he presented in two books. Politically, he was particularly involved in the case Kocbek when he and his colleagues Boris Pahor Trieste the " sky blue booklet" published 1975 and Edvard Kocbek in Trieste, which caused a violent political storm in Slovenia.

For his poetic work, he received the highest national award for art " Prešernova nagrada " and for the novel Nokturno za private morsko ( Nocturno for the coastal region ) the highest price prose " Kresnik " (2005). Rebula is a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Fine Arts and the Pontifical Academy in Rome.

Until his retirement he lived with his wife Zora Tavčar (even a writer and translator ) and his daughter Alenka ( also writer ) in Opicina / Opčine, a northern suburb of Trieste, since in Loka pri Zidanem mostu in Slovenia.
